If you’re considering teeth straightening then your timing couldn’t be better! Not so long ago, dentists were limited to 2 general methods of moving teeth. Braces that consisted of brackets and wire stuck on the outside surface of your teeth; or lingual braces that fitted to the inside of your teeth. If you really didn’t want a mouth full of metal, it was a question of put up or shut up!
And then along came Invisalign……..
This innovative teeth straightening system has totally revolutionised the field of orthodontics by getting rid of brackets and wires for good. Instead, it uses a series of aligners which are worn over your existing teeth, to gradually move them into their correct position. If you’re looking for discreet adult teeth straightening options then Invisalign fits the bill.
Its clear plastic aligners are barely noticeable to others and, unlike fixed braces, you can take a break from your aligners by removing them for a couple of hours a day. This is recommended for eating and drinking so as not to stain the plastic, and also allows you to brush and floss with ease. It also means you can leave off your aligners if you’re taking a selfie or attending a job interview. Just remember to put them back in again or you could disrupt your treatment and it may impact on the results too.
That’s great, how do I get started?
Using 3D computing imagery and digital technology your dentist maps out the movements required of your teeth to shift them to their correct position. This information is then used to fabricate a series of custom aligners which you’ll wear over the duration of your treatment. Each set of aligners is worn for 2 weeks before being replaced by the next set of aligners, and because patients can change their teeth aligners at home, then typically, this treatment doesn’t involve quite so many dental visits.
Throughout your treatment you’ll be able to carry on with life as normal and best of all, you’ll start to see gradual differences in your smile. Once you’ve reached the final set of aligners, you’re
almost there – your goal of a perfectly straight smile. Once your new smile is unveiled you may even decide to vamp it up some more with a course of teeth whitening. Whatever you decide to do, one thing’s for sure – you won’t be able to stop smiling.
Teeth straightening options for everyone
Building on its overwhelming success, Invisalign now offers a variety of ‘invisible teeth straightening’ treatments, for problems both big and small, meaning there’s an Invisalign solution for almost everyone. Our friendly experienced dentists will examine your teeth, and provided you’re a candidate for Invisalign, will recommend the best option for you. To give you an idea of the various Invisalign treatments available, we’ve listed them below.
• Invisalign Full – This is our most popular course of treatment at Glen Supreme (and is the original treatment) which we use to treat more complex orthodontic problems. It consists of as many aligners as are necessary to give the desired results. Depending on how many aligners the patient has been prescribed, treatment generally takes between 12 and 18 months to complete.
• Invisalign Lite – We often recommend Invisalign Lite as a pre-treatment to correct any slight discrepancies in the smile before a patient undergoes cosmetic treatments such as crowns or veneers. It consists of a set number of clear aligners which are worn for around 6 months with their function being to straighten and position the teeth correctly in order to enhance the overall appearance and functionality of the cosmetic work.
• Invisalign i7 – This is the latest addition to the Invisalign family which offers what can only be described as “express teeth straightening” with results being obtained in as little as 3 months. Yes really!
It’s designed for adults and teenagers who only require minimal tooth correction to perfect
their otherwise beautiful smile. It can treat that annoying crooked front tooth which has been bothering you and it can treat slight overcrowding. It can also be used for teeth that have suffered a slight relapse, resulting in the person feeling self-conscious again, about their crooked smile.
Teeth Straightening Just for teenagers
We know our kids don’t believe us (and yours probably don’t either) when we tell them that we were teenagers once and honestly, we do understand what they’re going through – really we do! What with gangly limbs and raging hormones, life is hard enough for teens without having to endure a mouth full of metal and cruel taunts of “tin grin” and “metal face” from your classmates. It’s no wonder teens have a reputation for being moody!
The good news is that Invisalign Teen has been specially designed for teenagers wanting to fix teeth without braces. Hallelujah!
It can treat a variety of dental problems, including:
• Widely spaced teeth
• Overly crowded teeth
It works in a similar way to Invisalign Full but has been given a “teenager friendly” makeover that’s designed to fit into busy teen life. One noticeable change is the handy colour indicator dots that change from blue to clear to show both parents and dentists that the aligner has been worn for the correct length of time, and is now due replacement. Another is the eruption tabs which are included for forward planning of permanent tooth growth. What’s more, 6 replacement aligners are included for free, just in case an aligner gets lost or damaged. On average, 18-30 aligners are likely to be prescribed for the duration of treatment ranging from 12-18 months, depending on the severity of your teen’s case and how compliant they are in wearing their aligners. With no wires to rub the gums, Invisalign Teen takes the hassle out of orthodontic treatment.
